Satyricon

25 August

Satyricon belongs to the very last period of creativity of the Venetian composer Bruno Maderna  (Sant’Anna di Chioggia, 21 April 1920–Darmstadt, Germany, 13 november 1973), who is considered a key figure of the historical avant-garde; a continuous investigator of new compositional techniques, he is also remembered for his extraordinary ability as a  great  popularizer and excellent interpreter of the music of his time.

The opera Satyricon was first performed at the Holland Festival in Scheveningen on 16 March 1976, the  libretto being inspired by the Latin novel of the same name attributed to Petronius.

Satyricon is an opera buffa with a strong sarcastic element.

The performance revolves around the pivotal episode of Petronius’ book, Trimalchio’s dinner, behind whose crass and ostentatious vulgarity is symbolised the total crisis of values in a world heading for decadence.

The Festival Puccini has produced the new production with direction, sets and costumes by Manu Lalli under the direction of Tonino Battista and will be staged in the Auditorium Enrico Caruso.

Performers Costanza Savarese, Eleonora Bordonaro, Patrizia Polia,  Joël O’Cangha, Timothy Martin, David Ravignani.
